DUI Charges In Fatal West Chicago Crash

Drunk driving (DUI) and other alcohol-impaired and drug-impaired driving continues to be highly problematical, as shown in statistics for DuPage County as well as other statistics.

As seen in the DuPage County Summary Crash Report for 2012, DuPage County had:

  • 872 alcohol- impaired crashes in the year 2012, in which there were 6 fatalities and 204 people injured
  • Additionally, there were 87 crashes in which drivers “had been drinking”
  • Driving while “drug- impaired” is also a problem, with 53 crashes involving drivers who were “drug impaired”

Recently, a fatal accident that occurred in DuPage County involved alleged alcohol-impaired (DUI) driving.

The fatal West Chicago crash was initially summarized in the December 6 post titled “Fatal Car Collision In West Chicago, Illinois.”  Additional information has now been released regarding this fatal crash.

An excerpt from the Chicago Tribune article of December 8, 2014, titled “Man charged with DUI in fatal West Chicago crash“:

A judge set bail at $500,000 Monday for Omar Montoya Medina, 29, of the 100 block of East Pomeroy Street, who has been charged with two counts of aggravated DUI.

Police said Montoya Medina’s blood alcohol level was 0.16 — twice the legal limit — when he struck a car being driven by Antonio Alvarez, 37, of Warrenville, about 11:07 p.m. Friday in West Chicago
