There was a fatal Tri-State Tollway SUV crash Sunday night, February 26, 2017. The crash happened on the northbound I-294 ramp to westbound I-80 near Hazel Crest.
An excerpt regarding the crash, from the February 27, 2017 NBC Chicago article titled “Woman Killed in Crash Involving 2 Semi Trucks on Tri-State Tollway“:
About 11:15 p.m., 49-year-old Reshma Khan was a passenger in a black 2017 Ford SUV traveling north on I-294 on the ramp to I-80 westbound, when the driver of the SUV tried to pass a semi truck by driving on the right shoulder, according to Illinois State Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
In attempting to pass, the driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle, struck the wall, and then struck the semi. It then continued past the semi and rear-ended another semi truck.
Reshma Khan, 49, of Naperville, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for treatment of her accident injuries. She later was pronounced dead.
The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries, for which he was also taken to Christ Medical Center for medical treatment.
This fatal accident remains under investigation.
