I-355 Fatal Car Crash In Downers Grove March 28, 2019

An I-355 fatal car crash in Downers Grove occurred late Thursday (March 28, 2019) night. This I-355 fatal crash resulted in two people being killed and three other people being injured, with those injuries considered to be life-threatening in nature.

According to information provided by the Illinois State Police, the crash involved four vehicles. The crash involved one vehicle traveling in the wrong direction, i.e. it was a “wrong-way driver” crash. This crash involved a “head-on collision.”

The drivers of the cars that crashed head-on were killed. They were identified as Robert Velazco, 36, of Hammond, Ind., and Arshad Mohammed, 32, of Bloomingdale. A 66-year-old woman and two men, 24 and 66, were seriously injured, state police said.

Police said Velazco was driving a blue Volkswagen south in the northbound lanes when it struck a black Honda driven by Mohammed near Maple Avenue around 11 p.m., police said. The cars were then struck by a silver Subaru and a white Ford box truck.

Velazco died at the accident scene.

Mohammed died early Friday morning after being taken to a hospital for treatment of his accident injuries.
