Police were called to the scene around 6 p.m. after a black Hyundai failed to reduce speed and struck a silver Chrysler going east on I-88 near Route 59, police said. The Hyundai then struck a black Mustang, and they both caught fire.

According to the Illinois State Police, fire departments from Naperville and Aurora took those injured to Edward Hospital in Naperville.

None of the injuries were considered to be life-threatening in nature.

When a vehicle is rear-ended, there are many possible injuries that can result to both drivers, as the drivers – especially in the lead vehicle – can be subject to sudden and strong unnatural forces.  Among the most common types of injuries is that commonly referred to as “whiplash.”  Injuries associated with “whiplash” can vary in severity and the time they are in effect.
